Space Hopper
A 2D platformer built as part of my course with Michigan State University.

Space Hopper is a proof of concept prototype game consisting of 3 levels. The player must navigate an alien space ship filled with creatures and acid, collect keys to open doors and progress to the next level.
My focus for Space Hopper was on level design and game systems. I implemented a vent system which adds thrust to the player as pictured to the right. This can and must be used to complete more complicated levels and maneuvers as the game progresses.
Levels advance the gameplay gradually and teach the player things one step at a time. For instance the first level teaches the player that they must grab a key of corresponding colour to the door which they want to unlock. This then resurfaces in future levels such as level 3 where a new vent system is also introduced. As the player already has foreknowledge of the door and key system, they are able to focus on the new systems as they're presented and enjoy them more.
